Castle of Aranda de Moncayo, erected in the 12th century during the Reconquista, dominates a strategic hilltop in Zaragoza province offering commanding views of the surrounding terrain. Originally built by a Muslim emirate, the fortress retained importance through tensions between Castile, which captured it in 1363, and Aragon in the 14th century. From 1366, the Order of Sant Jordi d'Alfama controlled the castle until it was granted to the noble Luna family in 1373, whose descendants shaped its subsequent history. Though remaining in ruinous condition, the castle has been recognised as a Bien de Interés Cultural site and continues to hold significant historical importance in understanding medieval frontier dynamics and strategic military positioning in Aragonese territory.
