Castell d'Altafulla, also known as Castell dels Montserrat, crowns a strategic hilltop in the center of Altafulla's medieval old town, commanding panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and Mediterranean Sea. Dating to 1059, this fortified residence features an irregular ground plan with corner towers crowned with crenellations and small turrets in a defensive configuration. The interior reveals Renaissance refinement through a central courtyard with galleried doors and windows. Originally held by the Requesens family until 1472, it later passed to Francisco de Montserrat and his descendants, who have preserved the property into the present day. The 17th-century construction represents a sophisticated blend of military fortification and aristocratic residence within a beautiful coastal setting.
