Castell de la Rodana crowns the highest point of a mountain in the Sierra de Espadán range, approximately 684 meters in elevation behind Almedíjar. Despite its modest size, its strategic central location granted significant defensive value throughout successive periods of occupation—from Iberian foundations through Roman settlement to Muslim development. After King Jaime I's conquest in 1238, the fortress was entrusted to Fray Bernardo de Bort, commander of the Alcalá Knights Templar. The castle exhibits an irregular, elongated shape following rocky terrain contours, with notable architectural features including Roman-style construction on the northern walls and distinctive Arab angled walls on the southern flank. Today, it remains a cataloged Cultural Heritage Site.
