Torre de Vilves, a compact yet formidable Gothic-style tower in Vilves, Artesa de Segre, Lleida, dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and was formally recognized as a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 1949. First documented in 1119 when Guerau Ponç infeudated it to Pere Bonfill, the tower changed hands among noble families including the Cabrera viscounts and the Urgel counts before the Abbot of Montserrat purchased it in 1532. Its masonry measures 5 by 5.25 meters with walls 1.80 meters thick and originally stood 10 meters high. Standing at 347 meters elevation, this well-preserved medieval military structure exemplifies the small but strategically important fortifications that dotted medieval Catalonia.
