Castillo de Freila is an Islamic castle located in the municipality of Freila in Granada's Altiplano region, built during the Nazarí period between the 13th and 15th centuries. The fortress is dominated by a solid circular tower standing 11 metres tall with a 4.6-metre base diameter, constructed in lime-plaster masonry. Surrounding the tower are preserved remains of masonry walls, three additional towers, a cistern, and a wall parapet, with access historically provided by a gate on the eastern side. The castle sits on a small plateau and represents the most notable monument in Freila, showcasing the characteristic defensive architecture of late medieval Granada's mountain frontier regions.
