Castillo de la Encomienda is a large 12th-century fortress in Aliaga, Teruel, covering approximately 4,000 square meters. Of Muslim origin, it was conquered by Alfonso I of Aragon in 1118 and later donated to the Military Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, becoming a commandery seat overseeing several regional fortifications. The castle witnessed significant events during the 19th-century Carlist Wars before being damaged in 1840. Now publicly owned and designated a Cultural Heritage Property, it stands as one of Teruel's most substantial medieval castles.
