Torre del Obispo, also known as Torre Vieja or Torre de los Moros, stands in Alguazas near the Mula River and is recognized as the oldest surviving fortress in the entire Region of Murcia. Built by order of Bishop Diego de Comontes (1327–1349), this quadrangular tower of approximately 18 meters per side preserves solid rammed earth mortar walls with regularly perforated holes revealing medieval construction techniques. Notably, by 1442 it housed artillery including cannons alongside crossbows and lances, serving as a lookout tower issuing smoke signals to warn Murcia of Moorish presence in the field. Though damaged by attacks including a devastating 15th-century raid by Granada's Boabdil el Chico, the tower endures as a Cultural Heritage Site.
