Castillo de la Caba, also known as Castillo de Aldeire, crowns a hill southeast of Aldeire in Granada province, strategically positioned to control the Puerto de la Ragua mountain pass and surrounding mining territories. This exceptional Caliphate fortress, likely built during the tenth to eleventh centuries with later Nasrid modifications, features an impressive fortified enclosure with approximately ten circular and square towers distributed around its perimeter. The castle includes a three-nave cistern with barrel vaults and represents one of the best-preserved Islamic castles in the Marquesado del Zenete region. Its elevated location and robust defensive architecture reflect its historical importance as a key strategic stronghold in medieval Andalusia.
