The Castle of the Calatravos in Alcañiz is a medieval fortress belonging to the Order of Calatrava that crowns a prominent hilltop in Aragón, blending Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Constructed in the 12th century, the castle's oldest sections include a Romanesque chapel, proto-Gothic cloister, and Gothic keep, with Mudéjar ornamentation added during the 14th and 15th centuries and a Renaissance façade completed in the 18th century. Now housing a Parador hotel designed by architect José Luis Picardo since 1968, the fortress offers panoramic views across the surrounding landscape and remains a significant example of medieval military and religious architecture from the Reconquista period.
