Castillo de Abizanda stands on a large perforated rock in Sobrarbe, Huesca, overlooking the upper Cinca River valley. Commissioned by Sancho III the Greater around 1023 using Lombard masters, the castle was built on the foundation of an Arab fortress to control the frontier against Muslim territories. Standing 24 meters high, this donjón structure features five interior floors dedicated to storage, defense, and residence. Now designated as a Cultural Heritage Site, the castle underwent restoration beginning in the 1980s and currently houses the Museum of Beliefs and Religious Practices of the Central Pyrenees.
