The Black Castle is a 15th-century fortification built by James Butler, 4th Earl of Ormond, in Templemore Park, County Tipperary. The castle's stone remnants are located at the park's western edge amid mature oak, beech, and chestnut trees, offering visitors a scenic setting to explore the region's medieval heritage. Though accidentally destroyed by fire in 1740, the ruins remain significant to the area's history. A self-guided Heritage Trail commissioned in 2014 connects the castle site to the town's historic core, with information leaflets available at Templemore Library at no cost.
