CASTLES BALBRIGGAN

Bremore Castle is a reconstructed Norman tower house situated north of Balbriggan in County Dublin, dating to the 14th century, though Anglo-Norman references trace back to the late 13th century. The powerful Barnewalls family controlled the property from its construction until 1727, after which it fell into significant disrepair by the late 18th century. The site encompasses a reconstructed fortified house, ruins of St Mologa's church and graveyard, boundary walls, gardens, and historic farm structures, all protected and carefully restored over recent decades. The heritage complex aims to capture the essence of medieval Balbriggan and serve as a venue for community events and gatherings, with a heritage guide and archaeological context available for visitors interested in the region's Norman heritage.

Ardgillan Castle and Demesne sits dramatically on an elevated coastline in North County Dublin, overlooking the Irish Sea with views of the Mourne Mountains and nearby Lambay Island.
