Château de Vendôme preserves the heritage of the medieval Counts and Dukes of Bourbon-Vendôme, whose line eventually rose to the French throne. Dating from the 11th to 17th centuries, the castle endured sieges by Huguenots in 1562 and revolutionaries in 1793, with its formidable Poitiers Tower still dominating the ancient fortified structure. The castle grounds feature a beautiful English-style park created in the 19th century, complete with rare 1807 cedars and collections of hydrangeas, offering panoramic views of the town.
