CASTLES SAINT-QUENTIN-DE-BARON

Château de Sours is an 18th-century wine estate spanning 60 hectares in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, originally built by the Counts of Richemont who planted the first vines. The beautiful residence was acquired in 2016 by Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, and is undergoing organic conversion to sustainable viticulture practices. The estate produces high-quality red, white, and rosé wines through two distinct collections: the Essences Collection inspired by the château's historic gardens and the innovative Quarry Collection derived from an ancient on-property quarry, which includes a rare sparkling Blanc de Noir. Visitors experience the vineyards, winemaking processes, and tastings within a picturesque and historically significant setting.

Château Bisqueytan is a medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop above the Bisqueytan stream, its triangular form following the natural contours of the limestone plateau. Originally fortified in the 12th century with a chapel and donjon, the castle developed substantially during the 15th and 16th centuries under new ownership. The compound features distinctive machicolated walls and parapets encircling a lower courtyard, along with a notable colombier (dovecote) topped by a pepper-pot roof. Notably owned by the philosopher Montesquieu in the 18th century, both the château walls and dovecote are designated as historical monuments, preserving centuries of Aquitaine's medieval heritage.
