Château de Peyras dominates the Charente landscape near Roumazières-Loubert, with medieval origins dating to at least the 11th century as a significant seigniory seat. The castle passed to the Feydeau family in the 15th century and remained their property through the 18th century, undergoing reconstruction following the Hundred Years' War. The rectangular main building with mansard roof, truncated corner tower, and preserved eastern wing reflect its 15th-century rebuild, while modifications across centuries added architectural complexity. Since 1977, the site has hosted seasonal cultural events including costumed historical reenactments, medieval markets, theatrical productions, and art exhibitions that bring the castle's heritage to vivid life for visitors year-round.
