Château de Montbron, known locally as the Vieux Château, stands in Montbron, Charente, with origins traced to 852 AD. The seigneury was founded in 567 by a servant of Chilperic I. The medieval structure was razed by Charles VII in the 15th century as a mark of infamy, but the current château was rebuilt around 1480 shortly after the Hundred Years' War. Ranked a Historic Monument in 1985, it retains rare architectural elements including a hexagonal turret staircase, an ornate 1610 heraldic frieze, and classified painted chimneys in its grand hall.
