Château de Montplaisant is an 18th-century estate in Montagnat, Ain, distinguished by sober and massive architecture with two entrance pavilions and wrought-iron gates. A feudal residence existed on the site since 1453, but the current U-shaped building acquired its distinctive character after 1789 when the Chossat de Montessuy family commissioned renovations. In 1804, Baron de Belvey returned from Italian exile and enhanced the estate by constructing a gallery linking the two wings while drawing inspiration from grand Italian dwellings. The château showcases preserved original elements including 18th-century woodwork in Louis XV and XVI styles, period fireplaces, and a pink stone staircase. The Salon des Quatre Saisons and other interior elements are protected as historical monuments, while the 5-hectare wooded park provides a serene setting for this elegant country residence.
