Château de Roquetaillade is a remarkable Renaissance castle in Mazères near Bordeaux, comprising two distinct fortified structures—one originating from Charlemagne's era and a second built by Cardinal de la Mothe in 1306 with royal English permission. Unsold within the same family for over 700 years, the castle was comprehensively restored between 1860 and 1870 by the renowned architect Viollet-le-Duc, whose extraordinary interior decorations and furnishings are now classified as French cultural heritage. Open to the public since 1956 and designated a historic monument, it ranks among the most visited castles in the Bordeaux region.
