Château de la Motte-Glain, located in Loire-Atlantique, exemplifies a transitional structure between medieval fortress and Renaissance residence. Initially constructed around 1050–1080, the castle achieved its distinctive form between 1489–1500 under Pierre de Rohan-Gié, a prominent military commander and royal minister. The edifice showcases local schist and Angevin tuffeau stone, with notable features including a fortified gatehouse embellished with machicolations and decorative elements referencing the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. After extensive restoration in 2015–2017, the château welcomes visitors during summer months and hosts cultural events and private receptions.
