The Vierge de Laroquebrou is a statue dedicated to the Virgin Mary, built in 1887 to replace an earlier chapel, making Laroquebrou an emblematic Marian shrine of Haute-Auvergne. The statue is a copy of the one atop the Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière in Lyon. It stands near the medieval Château de Laroque, originally constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries for its strategic riverside location, with the central building dating from the 16th century. The castle's original site featured a square tower housing a 14th-century Marian chapel, partially destroyed in 1653. After suffering damage during the Revolution, the castle was restored and listed as a historic monument in 1972. It now houses seasonal exhibitions during summer months, combining religious and medieval heritage.
