Château de Kintzheim is a medieval fortress built in the early 13th century during Emperor Frederick II's reign, strategically positioned on a rocky Alsatian promontory overlooking plains and the Vosges. Since 1968, the abandoned castle has been home to Volerie des Aigles, France's first free-flight raptor facility, transforming the ruins into a living educational space. Visitors experience "Entre ciel & terre" open-air spectacles, observe birds of prey in flight, learn raptor ecology and conservation, and explore the historic castle while discovering the ecological importance of these magnificent aerial predators.
