The château features a distinctive U-shaped layout with a central main building flanked by two wings, surrounded by moats, and is set within forests bordered by gardens designed by André le Nôtre, the renowned gardener of Louis XIV. The castle served as the residence of powerful ministerial families under Louis XIV and Louis XV, particularly the Phélypeaux family. Designed with involvement from architect François Mansart, the estate was classified as a Historical Monument on December 14, 1979, preserving its significance as a testament to French classical architecture and landscape design.
