Château de Bouges is an elegant 18th-century mansion constructed between 1763 and 1770 in Bouges-le-Château, Indre, for Charles Leblanc de Marnaval, a royal cloth factory director. The château represents an refined architectural 'folly' with rectangular design and distinctive Villentrois stone façades organized in triple depth. Classified as a historical monument with gardens recognized by France's Ministry of Culture as Notable Gardens, the estate underwent significant landscaping from 1897 to 1909 by renowned designers Henri and Achille Duchêne. In 1917, entrepreneur Henri Viguier acquired the estate and modernized it with electricity and central heating; upon his death in 1967, he bequeathed it to the National Monuments Centre. The expansive 80-hectare grounds encompass formal French gardens, an arboretum, floral garden, large greenhouses, and a landscape garden, making it a comprehensive example of period estate design.
