Château de Cirey is an imposing Louis XIII-style château located in Cirey-sur-Blaise in Haute-Marne. The estate gained prominence as the residence of Voltaire and Émilie du Châtelet from 1734 to 1749, serving as a haven where the Enlightenment philosopher could escape political persecution. Voltaire restored and enlarged the building, adding a gallery with intricate sculpted details dedicated to the arts and sciences. The château features one of the oldest private theaters in France, constructed in 1735 and used for rehearsing Voltaire's theatrical works. Today, the castle remains a testament to 18th-century intellectual life and has been protected as a historic monument since 1981.
