Château de Vaugirard in Champdieu, Loire, exemplifies early 17th-century pleasure architecture, built between 1600 and 1610 using traditional rammed earth (pisé). With slate roofs topped by pinnacles and richly decorated interiors featuring baroque fireplaces and unique frescoes depicting Louis XIV's Grand Caroussel, the château has been partially classified as a historic monument since 1970. Set in an English-style park with diverse trees replanted in the early 19th century, it opens seasonally for guided visits.
