Château de Chamarande is a 17th-century estate built in 1654 for Pierre Mérault, an ennobled advisor to the king, located 35 kilometers south of Paris in the Essonne department. Featuring distinctive Louis XIII-style architecture constructed with colored stone and sandstone, the 98-hectare domain unites historical heritage with contemporary art. Since 2001, a contemporary art centre operates at the château, hosting exhibitions of art, architecture, design, and botanical works. The estate's commanderie now serves as the main archive repository for the Essonne department's historical documents.
