Château du Lieu-Dieu is a 14th-century fortified castle located near Boulazac in the Dordogne, several kilometers southeast of Périgueux. Built as the seat of the Baconnie lordship and renamed Lieu-Dieu in 1387 when it sheltered religious reliquaries during English mercenary raids, the castle reflects the tumultuous medieval period of southwestern France. Its distinctive architecture includes a drawbridge, corner round towers, a commanding main building, and a narrow interior courtyard—all surrounded by historic moats. The building's façades, roofs, moats, and dovecote have been protected as a historic monument since 1959. Remaining in continuous family ownership since its construction, the castle operates as private property and is not open to public visitation, preserving its medieval character along the Manoire stream valley.
