Château d'Ancenis is a strategic Loire Valley fortress with origins dating to around 984, featuring two principal architectural periods: a late 14th-century gatehouse with defensive drawbridge and portcullis, and Renaissance lodging from 1529 displaying early Renaissance façade decoration. Designated a historic monument in 1977 and restored 2013–2015, the château now houses the wedding hall and hosts temporary summer exhibitions alongside the permanent "Château d'Ancenis – Regards croisés" exhibition tracing the site's evolution through artistic documentation across centuries.
