Jäneda linnamägi is an ancient hill fort located in Tapa, Lääne-Viru County, situated at the convergence of the historic regions of Järva, Harju, and Virumaa. This strategic defensive position was occupied from the 10th to 12th centuries, featuring a rampart approximately 3 metres high surrounding a triangular courtyard. The gently sloping sides of the hill provide commanding views of the surrounding landscape, reflecting the sophisticated understanding of fortification strategy employed by ancient Estonians. Today, Jäneda linnamägi serves as an important cultural landmark, hosting events celebrating Estonian heritage including traditional music, dance performances, and historical reenactments, connecting modern visitors with the region's medieval past.
