Spøttrup Castle is Denmark's best-preserved medieval castle, located 17 kilometers northwest of Skive in northern Jutland and surrounded by an enormous moat beside Spøttrup Lake. Built between 1521 and 1530 with its south wing dating to circa 1521, the castle features towers, a great hall, and a chapel representing authentic medieval defensive architecture. After losing importance following the Reformation, the neglected property was acquired by Axel Rosenkrantz in 1702 for renovation. Opened to the public as a museum in 1941, Spøttrup now showcases a beautiful medicinal garden inspired by medieval and Renaissance periods, featuring an herb garden with more than 280 plants, offering visitors a comprehensive medieval heritage experience.
