Katholm Castle is a Renaissance manor house on the Djursland peninsula, six kilometers south of Grenaa in eastern Jutland. Built between 1588 and 1591 with later expansion in 1622, the castle features red brick construction with Renaissance design elements including two capped corner towers. The main building sits on a castle bank surrounded by an artificial lake within a forested setting, creating a striking architectural and natural composition. The estate traces agricultural roots back to the 15th century before being converted to a manor in 1545. Notably, Wilhelm Dinesen, father of renowned writer Karen Blixen, spent his childhood at Katholm. Today, the castle represents four generations of the Collet family's stewardship, encompassing 1,170 hectares, preserving both the architectural legacy and rural character of Djursland's historic estates.
