Egeskov Castle stands as Europe's best preserved Renaissance water castle, built in 1554 by Frands Brockenhuus on oaken piles in a small lake near Kværndrup on Funen. According to legend, an entire oak forest was used for the foundation, from which the castle takes its name. Now privately owned by Count Michael Ahlefeldt, the castle welcomes visitors seasonally and showcases award-winning gardens named Europe's Best Historic Garden, featuring 17 themed landscapes, a treetop adventure course, and specialized museums displaying vintage vehicles and aircraft.
