Travnik Castle, known locally as Stari Grad, is a medieval town-fortress complex in Central Bosnia dating to the 14th or 15th century. Built by Bosnian kings, likely Tvrtko II or Ostoja, the castle served as the military and political center of Travnik when the city became capital of the Bosnian Vizierate in the 17th century. After the Ottoman conquest in 1463, the fortress was expanded and reinforced to meet the occupiers' strategic needs. Today, it stands as Bosnia's best-preserved castle and a declared National Monument, featuring a museum with historical exhibits and an ethnographic section. The fortress regularly hosts cultural events, medieval tournaments, and live reenactments that bring its rich history to life for visitors.
