Vogelsanck Castle stands as a moated water castle in the municipality of Heusden-Zolder, Limburg, with a governance heritage spanning from 1308 to 1795 as the administrative centre of the free territory of Vogelsanck. This historic jurisdiction encompassed the present villages of Zolder, Zonhoven, Houthalen, and Stokrooie, alongside the southern portion of Heusden, demonstrating the castle's strategic and administrative importance throughout medieval and early modern periods. Since 1741, the castle has been the residence of the de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck family, ensuring continuity of stewardship across centuries. Positioned north of the N72 highway between Hasselt and Beringen, the castle represents one of Belgium's remarkable water fortifications and continues to serve as a significant historical and cultural landmark within the Limburg region.
