CASTLES SCHOTEN

Kasteel van Schoten is a medieval castle in Schoten, Belgium, with documented origins dating to 1232 as a farmstead known as the Hof van Schoten. It served as the seat of the lords of Schoten from 1564 until the French Revolution, representing a classic Flemish noble country residence surrounded by a water-filled moat. Purchased by the municipality in 1951 from the Ullens de Schooten family, the castle now functions as a cultural center set within a scenic park. The domain features a falcon tower, the large historic Riddershoeve farm barn, play areas, sports facilities, interesting log sculptures, and on-site dining, making it a distinctive community venue.

Kasteel van Villers in Schoten has roots dating to 1220, when Villers Abbey established a monastery subsidiary on this strategic property in the Antwerp area. Following destruction during the 16th-century wars and subsequent rebuilding, the estate was secularized during the French period and eventually acquired by the della Faille de Leverghem family in 1921. The 324-hectare domain, now primarily comprising the residential villa community of Schotenhof, preserves the castle as a cultural landmark with impressive gardens.
