Château de Rixensart is one of Belgium's few princely castles and has been home to the Princes of Mérode since 1715. Built in four phases between 1631 and 1662, the castle exemplifies Brabantine Renaissance architecture. Its sumptuous interior features Louis XV and Louis XVI-style furniture, traditional Flemish tapestries, and a notable collection of Arabian arms brought from Egypt by mathematician Gaspard Monge. The French-style gardens were inspired by designs from Le Nôtre, Louis XIV's renowned architect. Since 2018, the castle and park have been properties of the Merode-Rixensart Foundation.
