Château de Raeren, built in the mid-14th century at the confluence of the Iter and Periolbach rivers, now houses a pottery museum documenting Raeren's renowned ceramic heritage spanning from the 14th to 19th centuries. The museum, opened in 1963, is the world's only institution offering a comprehensive overview of Raeren stoneware development and displays more than 2,000 artifacts recording the historical importance of local potteries that exported worldwide. The exhibition traces potters' evolution from medieval origins through their Renaissance peak in the 16th century, featuring celebrated works by master craftsmen like Jan Emens Menneken. The castle continues this tradition, hosting the annual Euregional Ceramics Market each September with approximately 80 participating European artisans, maintaining Raeren's historic connection to ceramic craftsmanship.
