CASTLES MODAVE

Modave Castle, one of Wallonia's most scenic and visited castles, perches on a 60-meter rocky outcrop overlooking the Hoyoux river and valley within a 450-hectare nature reserve. Though the structure likely originated in the late 13th century, its present appearance reflects the extensive restoration undertaken by Count Jean-Gaspard-Ferdinand of Marchin between 1652 and 1673, featuring Renaissance architecture and beautiful Italian-style gardens. The interior spans 25 rooms across basement, ground, and first floors, containing exquisite stucco, 17th-century tapestries, faience from Gien, and 19th-century Val-St-Lambert crystal, with audio guides available in 8 languages. Currently owned by Vivaqua, which manages the springs and wells in the surrounding park, the castle continues restoration efforts while welcoming visitors from around the world.

Château de Vierset in Modave is a historic castle dating from 1090, rebuilt in the 18th century on the site of a medieval fortress. The elegant structure combines Romanesque architecture with Renaissance elements and sits at the edge of a picturesque pond, surrounded by French gardens with English-influenced landscaping established in the 17th century. Nearly encircled by a protective moat, the castle has been transformed into a charming hotel offering guests a refined historical setting alongside modern amenities. The venue hosts private functions, corporate retreats, conferences, and special events in its banquet rooms.
