Kasteel Engelhof rises in the heart of the Hengelhoef forest domain in Houthalen, representing a distinctive chapter in Belgium's castle heritage. Built in 1903 following a fire on property traced to medieval times—when Countess Ermesindis of Namur donated the Hengelhoef in 1140 to the Premonstratensian abbey—the castle replaced earlier structures on the now-developed estate. The 19th-century castle designed for the de Beeckman de Vieusart-Wittouck family showcases architectural sensibility suited to its woodland setting. Today managed by Groep MSI, Engelhof functions as a sophisticated conference and event venue, with multiple meeting rooms (6–150 capacity) and an event barn accommodating weddings, performances, and seminars. The facility seamlessly blends historic preservation with contemporary hospitality use.
