CASTLES GEMBLOUX

Château de Corroy-le-Château is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the Benelux, located near Gembloux in the province of Namur, Belgium. Originally constructed between 1220 and 1230 with massive round towers and a protective moat, this pentagonal fortress features stunning 18th and 19th-century interiors with numerous artworks. The castle chapel contains secret passages used in medieval times. Remarkably, it has never been sold and has been continuously inherited by noble families including the Marquises of Trazegnies, making it a living monument to centuries of Belgian aristocratic history.

La Maison du Bailli in Gembloux is a Renaissance-era building whose cellars date from the 12th-13th centuries, with the main structure completed by 1589 as inscribed on its eastern doorway. The building showcases traditional Belgian craftsmanship through its brickwork and ornamental details, including arched windows and classical gables, with extensions and a second tower added in the 1930s. Acquired by the municipality in 1951, the castle was restored as a public venue and now houses the Cutlery and Local Life Museum on its upper floors, serving as an important local cultural heritage site.
