CASTLES ÉCAUSSINNES-D’ENGHIEN

Château fort d'Écaussinnes-Lalaing is a fortified castle museum in Écaussinnes-d'Enghien, Belgium, managed by the Fondation van der Burch. The structure retains medieval austerity with ground-floor areas including a dungeon, Gothic chapel, historic kitchen, and weapons room, while upper floors reflect 18th-century design. The castle is complemented by a walled kitchen garden perched on a steep cliff overlooking the Seneffe valley, featuring fragrant flowers and panoramic views. Both the castle and garden are designated as exceptional heritage sites in Wallonia. The castle opens April through September and hosts weddings, exhibitions, and special events.

Château de La Follie in Écaussinnes-d'Enghien, Hainaut, is a 16th-century manor built on the foundations of a 14th-century medieval castle, situated on the banks of the Sennette River. The lordship appeared in 1365 when Englebert d'Enghien purchased La Follie, deriving its name from "follie" meaning leafy shelter. The château's exceptional feature is its octagonal Gothic chapel dedicated to Saint Christopher, featuring a ribbed vault and rare 16th-century stained glass windows—the only complete example preserved in a Walloon castle chapel. Designated as exceptional heritage of Wallonia since 1976, the château hosts an annual classical music festival each July.
