Kasteeldomein Zellaer is a neo-gothic water castle built between 1888 and 1892 by architect Heugenbaarts from Mechelen. The castle's history extends back to at least the 13th century, when a water castle occupied the site, possibly housing Arnold van Zellaer, a wealthy canon. The fortress features robust exterior elements including a drawbridge, Donjon, crenellations, and loopholes. Now managed by the local council, the 18.5-hectare castle park is open to the public with its historic moat structure, pond, and tree-lined avenues dating to the 18th century visible on historic Ferraris maps, creating an exceptional destination for visitors.
