CASTLES BEERNEM

Kasteel Ten Torre in Beernem stands on the site of a castle first mentioned in 1353, with the present structure built in 1845 by Baron Hector Lebailly de Tilleghem. The castle underwent significant restoration around 1895 when architect Stefaan Mortier redesigned the structure in the style of Viollet-le-Duc, adding distinctive architectural features including an entrance loggia, open gallery, and watchtower conversion. This medieval-to-modern fusion towers prominently in West Flanders' cultural landscape. Today it functions as a luxury vacation rental with eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms, accommodating groups of up to 22 guests, preserving its aristocratic heritage while offering contemporary hospitality.

Kasteel Bulskampveld is an 18th-century castle built by Lambertus Malfait, nestled within an extensive provincial domain featuring lush woodlands, gardens, and hiking trails near Beernem. This harmonious blend of traditional Flemish and neoclassical architectural styles now serves as a nature and environmental education center and visitor reception point for the Bulskampveld landscape park. The renovated castle hosts an herb garden, cafeteria, playground, and galleries for art exhibitions and seasonal festivals. Visitors can explore the picturesque grounds through numerous cycling and walking routes while enjoying educational workshops and cultural programming that celebrate Belgian heritage and natural history.
