Château de Barbençon in Beaumont, Hainaut, originated in the late 12th or early 13th century as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Barbençon, who wielded significant political and commercial influence throughout the province. Today, only the Châtelet d'entrée gatehouse and portions of medieval walls remain from the original complex; the gatehouse was repurposed in the first half of the 20th century into a residence and holiday accommodation. Part of the acclaimed "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie" (Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia), the site now operates as a gîte offering visitors authentic accommodation within historic Walloon heritage.
