Burgruine Hohenwart is an extensive castle ruin located on the rocky, partially forested summit of Kleiner Sternberg at 802 meters elevation near Velden am Wörther See, Carinthia. Also known as the Black Castle, this mid-12th-century hilltop fortress features a complex layout with three courtyards arranged in succession and well-preserved elements including an early Gothic square keep, remains of a Gothic double chapel from the 14th century, and defensive walls. Originally granted to Duke Heinrich V of Carinthia by Pilgrim of Pozzuolo, the castle subsequently belonged to Bishop Roman I of Gurk and remained under the possession of various noble families including the Counts of Cilli until the 15th century, providing extensive hiking access to visitors.
