Moosham Castle near Unternberg in Salzburg's Lungau region rises at 1,079 metres on a strategic spur overlooking the valley. This medieval fortress, possibly built on Roman foundations and first documented in 1191, served as residence for Prince-Archbishop burggraves from the 14th century onward. In 1886, Austrian patron Count Johann Nepomuk Wilczek restored the castle and assembled an extensive art collection now displayed in its rooms. Today functioning as both museum and guest accommodation, Moosham offers visitors access to its halls featuring Wilczek's art while maintaining its private estate character and historic atmosphere.
