Burg Stixenstein, a substantial medieval hilltop castle complex overlooking the Sierningtal valley near Ternitz, traces its origins to the 12th century and the noble Stuchse family. The castle withstood Hungarian siege during Matthias Corvinus' 1487 campaign before returning to Habsburg control, surviving centuries of political upheaval.
