Straßburg Castle stands on a hillside 754 meters above sea level in Carinthia, originally built in the 12th century as the residence of Bishop Roman of Gurk, who also oversaw construction of Gurk Cathedral. First documented in 1147, the castle features a chapel dating to the late 12th century with original nave, chancel, and apse. The revitalized castle now functions as a cultural center housing folklore and ethnographic museums, displaying rural furnishings, textiles, and domestic artifacts from the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 1995, the Kulturring Schloss Straßburg has organized concerts, exhibitions, children's programs, and cabaret performances, reinvigorating the castle as a vibrant venue for artistic and cultural events.
