Burg Festenburg is a Styrian castle founded around 1200 by the Lords of Stubenberg as Vöstenburg in Sankt Lorenzen am Wechsel. The fortress survived notable historical challenges, including unsuccessful Turkish sieges in 1529 and 1532 during the Ottoman expansion into Central Europe. Following its acquisition by Vorau Abbey in 1616, the castle was transformed from a defensive stronghold into a monastic complex, with significant architectural expansions occurring between 1700 and 1723. Today it houses the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Katharina and features exhibitions exploring the region's medieval and monastic history, serving as an important cultural venue in eastern Styria.
