Eschelberg Castle is a Renaissance hilltop residence in St. Gotthard im Mühlkreis, overlooking the Mühlviertel landscape at 396 meters elevation, just twenty minutes from Linz. Originally recorded in 1209 as a medieval stronghold, the structure was transformed around 1598 into its present Renaissance form. Protected as a cultural heritage monument, the castle was sold to the prominent Starhemberg family in 1647 and remains under their private ownership today. Though not open to the public, Eschelberg maintains its historical charm while serving as a venue for private events, blending centuries of architectural heritage with contemporary hospitality.
